Listening: to the sounds of the night at my house. Cat purring on the bed beside me. Dan, my hubby, snoring next to me.  Footsteps of my teen son, Maxson, walking down the hallway to his bedroom. He’s been up late doing his English homework and needs to shower and get to bed. Teens have late nights and early mornings. I guess moms do too.

Eating:The last of the Trader Joe’s box brownies my husband made a week ago. Even though they are a little dry after spending a week on the counter they are pretty yummy.

Drinking: a glass of Charles & Charles, a red blend. It’s my my nighttime vice after a long, long day.

Reading: “Landline” by Rainbow Rowell. I checked it out from the library a week ago and I’m only on page 96. Maxson stole it from my suitcase this weekend while we were in a hotel in Appleton, Wisconsin visiting Tanner at Lawrence University. He finished it. Somehow he always gets more time to read than I do.

Wearing: My 2014 Turkey Trot technical shirt. I ran it with Karen Patterson. We had a great time that day. I resolved to run more races this year. I ran the Whoville 5K in December. That’s my last race. This crazy winter weather has derailed my running. I used to be so dedicated. Now I’m getting to be a fair weather runner, the type I used to abhor. I’ll get more serious with the spring weather.

Feeling: very tired right now. It was a long day. Up early to take Maxson to school and make it to my 7:45 a.m. staff meeting just in time. It was a difficult day with my Young Fives. I had two parent phonecalls to make after school today. Picked Maxson up from his math tutor, got him dinner at Wendy’s (I apologize to the healthy food police but sometimes I have to make sacrifices) and drop him off at Scouts just in time. I met my husband for a lovely dinner (he just flew into town) at Euro Bistro which has become our “Cheers”. Then, picked Maxson up from scouts and came home to post my slice for today.

Wanting: More time to read and more time to sleep. I never seem to get enough of either. Maybe Saturday I’ll sleep in and remain in my jammies all day and read indulgently. The last time I got up early on a Saturday morning and wandered into the kitchen to make coffee with the intention of spending long, luxurious hours nursing a book I waded into a lake on my kitchen floor. That’s a long story I’ll have to write about another time.

Needing: to feel settled about my job prospects for next year. My position as Young Fives teacher is being eliminated and I have no guarantee of a teaching position. This has really been weighing heavily on me and I’m trying not to internalize it. I am trying to tell myself to just delve enthusiastically into each day and it’ll all work out in the end. I feel so passionate about teaching. Am I making a difference?

Thinking: that I am so grateful for my new writing community. I really feel like I took a leap off a cliff four days ago and I am overwhelmed by the sense of community that I feel with my co-slicers.

Enjoying:  a wide variety of writing styles and trying some of them on for size. I was inspired to write this blog post by fellow SOLC’er Stacey Shubitz. Stacey, I hope you don’t mind that I coopted your format. I read yours and it inspired me to try it too.
